SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan men's and women's basketball teams will play host to Dakota State University, Mount Marty College and Presentation College Nov. 3-4 in the third annual South Dakota NAIA Basketball Classic at the Sanford Pentagon.
The event features eight games and acts as a season kick-off for the four schools, giving them an opportunity to display their talent early in the season in the venue that will – for the second year in a row – host the NAIA Division II men’s basketball championships.
“The Sanford Pentagon is a great venue for our players, students, alumni and fans,” said Gary Garner, the men’s basketball coach at Dakota State. “Our players are really looking forward to playing in Sioux Falls against two other NAIA schools in South Dakota.”
To give each college equal opportunity, each school will take turns hosting the event. Mount Marty hosted in 2016, Dakota State University hosted in 2017 and Presentation will host in 2019.
The two Great Plains Athletic Conference teams (Dakota Wesleyan and Mount Marty) will compete against the two North Star Athletic Association teams (Dakota State and Presentation). The two-day classic will feature two sessions of games each day, with both the men’s and women’s teams from each school playing each other.
The DWU women are the reigning national champions in NAIA Division II.
“How is it not exciting to play at a venue like the Sanford Pentagon?” said DWU women’s coach Jason Christensen. “This gives our players an opportunity to prove themselves in an early-season matchup against other teams within our area in a state-of-the-art venue.”
Tickets are available at the door on game day and cost $10 for adults and $5 for students and children per session.
