SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Dakota State University men's and women's basketball teams; along with Dakota Wesleyan University, Mount Marty College and Presentation College will play in the second annual South Dakota NAIA Basketball Classic at the Sanford Pentagon Nov. 4-5.
“The Pentagon is a great venue for college basketball and we have four teams from the state of South Dakota competing,” said Gary Garner, Dakota State men’s basketball head coach. “Our players love to come to Sioux Falls and play on the Heritage Court. It is a chance for our alumni and fans from Sioux Falls to enjoy the games.”
The South Dakota NAIA Basketball Classic will act as a season kick-off for the four schools, giving the teams an opportunity to showcase their talent early in the season.
“The Pentagon is a state-of-the-art facility that any player would be lucky to play in, and our players are incredibly excited for the classic,” said David Moe, Dakota State women’s basketball head coach. “Giving our players the opportunity to play in the South Dakota NAIA Classic against quality opponents is a great way to kick off the season!”
“The NAIA Pentagon Classic has become a great way to showcase the talent in South Dakota in a state-of-the-art facility,” said Jason Christensen, Dakota Wesleyan women’s basketball head coach. “Our team is always eager to play in a high-caliber setting that gives our fans a first-class experience. We look forward to playing in the Pentagon for years to come.”
"Playing in Sioux Falls at the Sanford Pentagon not only gives us a chance to compete against great South Dakota NAIA competition but also gives us an opportunity to play in an amazing and unique one-of-a-kind facility,” said Cody Schilling, Mount Marty men’s basketball head coach. “The fact that our fans from Yankton can drive down and experience two back to back games along with all of our fans living in Sioux Falls is very rewarding not only for our program but also our entire school and fan base.”
“We are really looking forward to returning to the Sanford Pentagon for the South Dakota NAIA Classic,” said Jeremy Reigle, Presentation head men’s basketball coach. “It is an incredible venue that offers a great opportunity for our guys to play in a first class facility against great competition.”
To give each college equal opportunity, each school will take turns hosting the event. Dakota Wesleyan will host in 2018 and Presentation in 2019. Mount Marty hosted in 2016.
The two Great Plains Athletic Conference teams (Dakota Wesleyan and Mount Marty) will compete against the two North Star Athletic Association teams (Dakota State and Presentation). The two-day classic will feature two sessions of games each day, with both the men’s and women’s teams from each school playing each other.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and children per session.
