SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana men’s and women’s basketball teams return to their homecourt inside the Sanford Pentagon on Friday and Saturday to host a pair of NSIC contests.
Augustana women host Northern State at 5:30 p.m. Friday while Saturday’s tip-off with MSU Moorhead is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. The contest marks the only regular-season meetings between the two schools.
Friday’s game will have athletes from Special Olympics competing at halftime.
The Viking men are set to host Northern State at 7:30 p.m. Friday and MSU Moorhead on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. Both squads are from the NSIC’s North Division with this weekend marking the only regular season meeting with them this year.
At halftime of the Friday contest, the Fargo-Moorhead Acro Team will entertain fans with its high-flying acrobatic show.
The Northern women are 11-5 overall and 7-3 in the NSIC, having won four-straight games. Lexi Wadsworth leads the Wolves at 15.3 points per game while Brianna Kusler joins her in double digits at 13.9 points per game. Kusler ranks fourth in the NSIC with 8.2 rebounds per outing. The Wolves score 68.3 points per game while their opponents tally 64 points per contest.
Series History: Augustana leads 25-24; Augustana won last year’s regular season and NSIC Tournament meetings and has won four-straight in the series.
The NSU men are led by Parker Fox and his 21.1 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. He ranks third in the NSIC in points per game while the Wolves are tied atop the NSIC standings with Minnesota Duluth at 8-2. Mason Stark and Gabe King join Fox in double-digit scoring at 15.1 and 11.3 points per game, respectively. Northern State scores 80.6 points per outing while holding opponents to 71.1 points per game.
Series Record - Augustana leads, 40-37
The Dragon women are the NSIC preseason favorites. Currently, MSUM is 8-2 in league play and 13-4 overall. Megan Hintz leads the Dragons at 15.2 points per game and 7.6 rebounds per outing. She scores at a 58 percent clip, second-best in the NSIC. The Dragons have won three-straight games. MSUM averages 73 points per game while its opponents tally 55.6.
Series History: Augustana leads 16-10; MSU Moorhead has won three-straight in the series.
The MSU Moorhead men are 9-7 overall and 5-5 in NSIC action after splitting last weekend with Bemidji State (W/OT, 78-75) and Minnesota Crookston (L, 94-61). Gavin Baumgartner and Bryce Irsfeld each tally double-digit points at 15 and 13.7 points per game, respectively. The Dragons average 77.7 points per game while giving up 75.8.

Augustana has won two-straight and seven of the last eight in the series.
Augustana women earned their first NSIC weekend sweep of the season with victories over Upper Iowa and Winona State. The Vikings did not trail in either contest and used fast starts to push them to victory in both games. At Upper Iowa, Augustana cruised 37-19 halftime lead and benefitted from holding UIU to 1-of-12 shooting in the second quarter. The next night, Augie held the Warriors to 1-of-16 shooting in the opening quarter for a 15-3 lead and 33-18 halftime advantage.
Senior Abby Hora is the team’s leading scorer at 12.9 points per game while freshman Lauren Sees is at 12.1 points per contest. Senior Hana Beyer leads the team at 5.7 rebounds per contest and is coming off a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds at Winona State.
Augustana men look to turn the tide of a three-game skid while holding an 11-5 overall record and 6-4 mark in the NSIC. The Vikings are 6-1 in home contests in 2019-20. The Vikings saw strong production out of Tyler Riemersma this past weekend as he recorded a pair of double-doubles. The junior scored 23 points and grabbed 18 rebounds at Upper Iowa and followed with 12 points and 10 rebounds at Winona State. The 18 rebounds are a career-best while ranking second in the NSIC this year.
For the season, Matt Todd continues to pace active Vikings’ with 13.4 points per game. Riemersma tallies 12 points and is followed by Michael Schaefer with 10.1 points per contest. Riemersma records 13.7 points and 10.6 rebounds per NSIC contest.
One Last Thing
Hora and Beyer have combined to provide a one-two punch for the Vikings on defense. Hora ranks second in the NSIC with 2.1 steals per game while Beyer is fourth at 2.0 steals per outing. The Vikings as a whole are 34th in the nation with 11.1 steals per game.
Augustana men have proven all year long that they are a force at securing rebounds. The Vikings are 10th in the nation in total rebounds and rebound margin while ranking seventh in NCAA Division II with 4.1 offensive rebounds per game. In all, Augustana owns a rebound margin of +8.9 and averages 42.3 rebounds per game.
