About Northern State
Northern State enters this weekend’s games with a 4-1 record. Earlier this year, the Wolves nearly pulled off a historic upset of the Pac-12’s Arizona State Sun Devils before falling 98-90 in double overtime in an exhibition game in Tempe, AZ. Picked first in the NSIC preseason poll, the Wolves are under the direction of eighth-year head coach Paul Sather. Through five games this season, NSIC newcomer of the year and first-team all-conference Logan Doyle is one of three Wolves averaging more than 10 points per game, while leading NSU with seven rebounds per contest.

About Wayne State
Wayne State brings a 3-1 record into the opening day of the Sanford Pentagon Basketball Classic with wins against Nebraska-Kearney, Barclay College and Augustana. Jeff Kaminsky enters his second season as the Wildcats head coach, coming off a 10-19 campaign in 2016-17. Wayne State was picked to finish eleventh in the NSIC. Kendall Jacks and Trevin Joseph are both averaging in double figures for the Wildcats at 15.5 and 11 points per game, respectively.

About Missouri Southern State
Missouri Southern State has started the young season off with a 1-2 record, with both losses coming to NSIC opponents in the MIAA/NSIC Challenge. The Lions were picked to finish sixth in the MIAA preseason poll. Jeff Boschee is in his fourth year as the head coach of the Lions and has a 56-35 record. The former Kansas star was the Big 12 Freshman of the Year in 1999-2000 and led the Jayhawks to the Final Four in 2002.

About NYIT
The New York Institute of Technology brings a 2-1 record to the Sanford Pentagon Basketball Classic. Its two victories have come over Wilmington (Del.) and Caldwell. Kevin Hamilton, a fourth round selection of the Boston Celtics in 1980, enters his second season as head coach of the Bears. Jeffrey Haden is averaging 24 points per game this season. The junior forward exploded for 32 points in a loss to USciences earlier this month.

Facility facts
The cornerstone of the Sanford Sports Complex in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, is the Sanford Pentagon, a 160,000-square-foot, five-sided facility featuring nine basketball courts, including the 1950s/1960s-inspired Heritage Court. The venue combines state-of-the-art amenities—including high-definition video boards and executive suites—with period-specific finishes that are a nod to the nostalgic days of basketball. The 3,200-seat Pentagon is home to Sanford POWER Basketball Academy, Sanford POWER Volleyball Academy, the NBA G League’s Sioux Falls Skyforce, the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Women’s and Men’s Basketball Tournament and the South Dakota High School Basketball Hall of Fame.

Parking and accommodations
Parking at the Sanford Pentagon is available on the east, west and north side of the facility. Need to eat? The Pentagon includes full-service concession stands, and Will’s Training Table is a short walk across the street. Want to stay close to the arena? The Fairfield Inn & Suites is also across the street. The venue also has an official team store and several ATM stations.

Special features
The South Dakota High School Basketball Hall of Fame calls the Sanford Pentagon home. Visitors can enjoy the free exhibit that includes historical photos, records and memorabilia. In fact, the entire facility is trek to a different era. The Pentagon took great care to include old photos, jerseys and mementos throughout the venue. One of this year’s new elements highlights former high school championship teams. That’s available for viewing on the second level.
