Laettner coming to Sanford POWER basketball camps in Bismarck, Moorhead

BISMARCK, N.D./MOORHEAD, Minn. – College basketball icon and longtime NBA standout Christian Laettner is teaming up with the Sanford POWER Basketball Academy to hold basketball camps in Bismarck and Moorhead in May.

The Moorhead camp will be held May 7 at the Moorhead High School, 2300 Fourth Ave., and Bismarck’s will be May 8 at Bismarck Legacy High School, 3400 E. Calgary Ave.

The camp is designed for players in grades 2 through 12. Participants will focus on individual offensive skill work in ball handling, live-ball moves, shooting fundamentals and drills, footwork and overall scoring techniques.

Separate sessions will be held through the day based on grade level.

Moorhead camp schedule:

  • Grades 2-4 from 9 to 10 a.m.
  • Grades 5-8 from 10 a.m. to noon.
  • Grades 9-12 from 1 to 3 p.m.

Bismarck camp schedule:

  • Grades 2-4 from 1 to 2 p.m.
  • Grades 5-8 from 2 to 4 p.m.
  • Grades 9-12 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Registration is $25 for second through fourth grade and $40 for fifth grade through senior participants. To register, call (605) 312-7920.

The 6-foot-11 Laettner, regarded as one of the best college basketball players of all time, led Duke to a pair of NCAA Division I national titles and was named national player of the year as senior. He was a member of Team USA’s “Dream Team” that won a gold medal in the 1992 Olympics. He had a 13-year career in the NBA, earning All-Star status in 1997.
