Volleyball academy has summer offerings for all levels

The Sanford POWER Volleyball Academy at the Sanford Pentagon has a full slate of summer programs for players entering Grades 6-12.

Opportunities include clinics aimed at improving specific skills, camps geared toward working on all skills, multi-week skill academies and school-ball prep sessions.

Registration is open now for all dates.

Sanford POWER Volleyball Academy is the most comprehensive program in the region, combining skill development with sports performance, sports science and sports medicine elements housed at the Sanford Sports Complex.

Mark McCloskey, academy coordinator and club director, brings over 25 years of experience and a team of advanced professionals, including team USA standout Courtney Thompson, to help develop young athletes and help them reach their volleyball goals.

Middle School (grades 6-8)

Clinics:

  • June 3: Serving and Hitting 12:30-2:30pm

  • June 10: All Skills 12:30-2:30pm

  • July 15: Hitter 9:30-11:30am

  • July 16: Setting 9:30-11:30am

Camps:

  • July 8-10: All Skills 9:30-11:30am

  • July 22-24: All Skills 9:30-11:30am

Skills Academies (grades 7-8):

  • July 8, 15, 22: Setter Academy 5:00-7:00pm

  • July 8, 15, 22: Hitter Academy 5:00-7:00pm

  • July 8, 15, 22: Defense/passing Academy 5:00-7:00pm

High School (grades 9-12)

Clinics:

  • July 15: Hitter 12:30-2:30pm

  • July 16: Setting 12:30-2:30pm

Skills Academies

  • July 8, 15, 22: Setter Academy 7:00-9:00pm

  • July 8, 15, 22: Hitter Academy 7:00-9:00pm

  • July 8, 15, 22: Defense/passing Academy 7:00-9:00pm

School Prep

  • July 29-31: Last Chance All Skills Camp 9:30-11:30am

  • August 5: Last Chance All Skills Clinic 9:30-11:30am

  • August 6: Last Chance Hitter Clinic 9:30-11:30am

  • August 6: Last Chance Setter Clinic 9:30-11:30am

  • August 6: Last Chance Defense/Passing Clinic 9:30-11:30am

-What is the difference between a camp and clinic?

The camps provide in-depth skill-work where participants will learn specialized techniques to maximize performance over a few days of workouts. Clinics provide a one-day broader view of these same skills and drills.

-Do you have to pick one camp/clinic/academy when they are scheduled for the same time?

Each of the clinic, camp and Academy services scheduled at the same time are to help participants further understand the positions within the game of Volleyball and specialize their skills at the position they register under.
