SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - A pair of GPAC squads survived Day 3 of the NAIA Division II men's basketball tournament at the Sanford Pentagon, advancing to the Saturday quarterfinals.
Morningside (IA) topped Mount Vernon Nazarene 75-69 behind 26 points from post player Tyler Borchers before Briar Cliff upset West Virginia Tech 99-72. The Chargers knocked down 20 3-pointers - a tournament record.
Earlier in the day, defending national champion Indiana Wesleyan pulled out an 87-86 decision over Dakota Wesleyan - the only South Dakota school in the field - on a late 3-pointer by Kyle Mangas.
