SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - There are four teams left competing for the top prize in NAIA DII men's basketball. Three of those teams are from Indiana while the College of Idaho is the lone non-Hoosier state representative in the semifinals of the NAIA DII Men's Basketball National Championships.
Three of the four top seeds also remain in the tournament, including IU East (Ind.). The Red Wolves (34-2) are tied for first in the country in total scoring offense and went undefeated in the River States Conference. They are a very balanced team with superior team guard play and the sharp-shooting of Bishop Smith.
The Red Wolves opponent is fellow No. 1 seed, Indiana Wesleyan, who remarkably is tied with IU East in total scoring offense. Kyle Mangas averages nearly 22 points per game for the Wildcats (29-7) while Kansas transfer Evan Maxwell has averaged 22 points per game during the tournament including a 33 point game against Antelope Valley University (Calif.) in the opening round.
The only non top-seed team left is St. Francis University (Ind.). The Cougars (28-8) are led by senior Derek Hinen, who has averaged 29.3 points during the first three games of the tournament. USF has also gotten big games during the tournament from Bryce Lienhoop and Chandler White.
The Cougars will play College of Idaho, for a shot at the championship game. The Coyotes (30-6) narrowly defeated Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) 62-60 in the second round before easily getting by Marian (Ind.) in the quarterfinals. Nate Bruneel and Aziz Leeks lead a balanced Coyote scoring attack.

About the Facility
The Sanford Pentagon is the cornerstone of the Sanford Sports Complex. As a 160,000-square-foot, five-sided facility, the Pentagon houses nine basketball courts, including the 1950s/1960s-inspired Heritage Court at the heart of the facility. The venue combines state-of-the-art amenities—including high-definition video boards and executive suites—with period-specific finishes that are a nod to the nostalgic days of basketball. The 3,200-seat Pentagon is home to the Sanford POWER Basketball Academy and Sanford POWER Volleyball Academy, the NBA G League’s Sioux Falls Skyforce, the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Women’s and Men’s Basketball Tournament and the South Dakota High School Basketball Hall of Fame.
The South Dakota High School Basketball Hall of Fame
The South Dakota High School Basketball Hall of Fame calls the Sanford Pentagon home. Visitors can enjoy the free exhibit that includes historical photos, records and memorabilia. In fact, the entire facility is a trek to a different era. The Pentagon took great care to display old photos, jerseys and mementos throughout the venue. One of this year’s new elements highlights former South Dakota high school championship teams. Large placards and photos of the teams are available for viewing on the second level.
