Christian Laettner, a former college basketball and NBA star, is coming to Aberdeen and Vermillion for two youth basketball camps with Sanford POWER Basketball Academy. Laettner will be at Vermillion High School on Nov. 4 and Aberdeen Central High School on Nov. 5.

Laettner is teaming with Sanford POWER Basketball Academy staff for the Christian Laettner Basketball Camp, which is open for girls and boys in second through twelfth grade. In three separate sessions based on age, Laettner and Sanford POWER Basketball Academy coaches will focus on shooting mechanics, live-ball moves, proper footwork, ball-handling fundamentals and live-play concepts.

Children in second through fourth grade can register for $30, while fifth through twelfth grade registration is $40. All players attending will get a free shirt.

Laettner spent 13 years in the NBA and was an all-star in 1997. He also won two NCAA titles while playing at Duke (1991 and 1992) and was named the national collegiate player of the year in 1992. He is perhaps best known for iconic last-second heroics in a 1992 regional final game in which he drilled a turnaround jumper to lift the Blue Devils past Kentucky.

Former University of South Dakota standout, Trevor Gruis, will join Laetnner for the camp in Vermillion.
