Sanford POWER-TIBBS Basketball Academy launches Sept. 4

(Sioux Falls, SD) – Sanford POWER Basketball and TIBBS Basketball have announced a merger to form Sanford POWER-TIBBS Basketball Academy.

The program will be led by Matt Wilber and David Foster.  Wilber served as the director of TIBBS Basketball, while Foster was the director of Sanford POWER Basketball.

Beginning Sept. 4, Sanford POWER-TIBBS Basketball Academy will hold training sessions in the newly renovated St. Joseph’s Cathedral Gym.  The facility boasts new backboards and rims and an updated playing surface.  In September 2013, the basketball-training service will move into the Sanford Pentagon at the Sanford Sports Complex.

As its parent organizations did, Sanford POWER-TIBBS Basketball Academy will continue to offer a wide variety of workout options, competitive academies and skill camps for individual players and teams of all ages and skill levels.

“Combining these two first-rate training programs is going to enhance the athlete experience and produce dynamic players,” said Eric Larsen, executive director of the Sanford Sports Complex. “Matt and Dave are established teachers with a proven basketball pedigree; their collaboration is a win for basketball in this region.”

Wilber and Foster both played basketball at Augustana College.  Wilber had stints as an assistant coach at Augustana, the University of Sioux Falls and South Dakota State University.  Foster, a three-time all-conference pick at Augustana, spent one year playing professionally in Scotland.

Nate Tibbetts and Matt Wilber are the original co-owners of TIBBS Basketball Academy. Nate Tibbetts is currently an assistant coach for the NBA Cleveland Cavaliers. As part of the agreement between Sanford Health and TIBBS Basketball, Tibbetts will remain periodically involved with the program.

Nate Tibbetts says, "This was an easy decision for us to join Sanford and all its resources. In my experience, Matt Wilber is as good as any workout expert in the country. His energy and passion for the game of basketball is second to none. I look forward to my continued involvement with Matt and the new program."

This fall’s training season includes sessions after school hours and weekends by request. For more information on Sanford POWER-TIBBS Basketball Academy, visit www.tibbsbasketball.com.
